Kochi: The Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has urged the Centre to desist from the move to go ahead with financial sector reforms. The two-day All India General Council meeting of the federation, which concluded here on Saturday, urged the government to strengthen public sector banks.
The BEFI pointed out that when the global financial crisis broke out last year, the spokespersons of the Union government, including the Finance Minister and the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, had stated that its impact on the country was lesser on account of the superior regulatory measures and the presence of strong public sector banks.
